As an inaugural solidarit

As an inaugural solidarity trip from Tahiti to RMI, Vehia Wheeler and Tiarema’ohi Tairua from MET NGO are in Majuro, Marshall Islands to support Nuclear Victims Remembrance Day (NVRD). Commemorated every year, this day remembers the nuclear explosion in Marshall Islands named Castle Bravo, detonated on March 1st, 1954. As part of our trip, we were able to take part in the NVRD march on March 1st, and listen to speakers who passionately shared their nuclear history. The following day, on March 2nd, we were a part of a NVRD panel with Marshall Islanders, those from Kiribati and ourselves from Ma’ohi Nui. We shared about nuclear history in our Pacific countries, our lived experiences in Ma’ohi Nui and spoke on ways forward with accountability from the states who detonated these bombs. Tiarema’ohi ended the panel by sharing a song she wrote in Reo Tahiti about the reconciliation of our past and moving forward in our va’a. We are very grateful to be in RMI and partake in these important events, and share and learn along with Marshallese people.
